About WDC
We Design Change.
We all want the world to be a better place, right?
Unfortunately, when you look around, it’s pretty obvious that some change is needed to get to it there. That’s when things start seemingly a little futile. We start asking ourselves, “how can I really make a difference of any meaningful size?” and “what do I really have to give? I’m not rich….”
Luckily, we know how to band together. Tons of awesome organizations around the world have brought together people with common concerns and passions. When all those individuals rally around one cause, we’ve seen some powerful effects.
The WDC Way
We Design Change was inspired by some community activity inside the movement of Blog Action Day 2008. B.A.D. brings 10,000 + bloggers together on one day every year to rally and write around a common cause. The results are astounding: 10+ MILLION readers can’t ignore the topic because it floods their RSS readers and e-mail inboxes.
My name is Alex Linebrink. I do web and graphics design, and run a small design & social marketing blog called That INDIE Dude. In 2008 I was fortunate enough to play a part, and watched as my fellow web and graphics designers online did the same. I was amazed at the creativity pouring out of this deeply interconnected online network of designers, and I realized (while writing my own Blog Action Day post) that we really have a special role to play. We designers and artists have the uncanny ability to call our creativity forth at a moment’s notice and make that small portion of the world atrractive and beautiful.
WE get paid for consistent “strokes of genius” and for our ability to make people stop and admire our work.
WE don’t survive without our huge networks of connections on Twitter, and Facebook, and LinkedIN, and blogs to spread word of our big designs and the next biggest trends.
What if we could combine our efforts behind common causes — drawing the world’s attention to those causes through our creativity and art?
THAT is the mission and idea behind WDC: to use our skills and social networks as designers to call attention to the the potential for beauty in the world. In a sentence: we want to design our way to a more beautiful world.

So how do YOU fit in?
Right now, we don’t have any requirements or want any commitment. If you jive with this mission, join up: you have nothing to lose! We just want to put together a community of designers and artists who want to use their skills to make the world a better place. We’ll see what happens from there
If you’re ready to jump in, there are a few things you can do right now.
- Head over to the community page and add your name to the list! We designers know that half the battle on making a wave is having a network to tap. Why not make yourself part of the network?
- Sign up for the e-mail newsletter! It’s on the right. We promise not to spam you. You’ll probably get an e-mail with the latest developments every couple weeks. Maybe less. That’s 26 e-mails PER YEAR. You can handle it
- Share your inspiration, and submit links! We keep tabs on our community through community submitted links of inspiration. Did you just do something big? Planning a way to make a certain part of our world a little more beautiful? Submit it! This list IS moderated, so no spamming will be tolerated. That doesn’t mean we don’t want you to promote your cause though!
- SPREAD THE WORD! Get the word about WDC OUT THERE! Twitter it. E-mail it. Digg it. Mixx it. Stumble it. Propel it. Float it. Bump it. Whatever you can do to get the word out. We want to make this community as BIG as possible!
